Albany Car Shipping

From the capital, a running sedan on an open trailer costs $350 to $550 to or from New York City or Boston and $800 to $1,150 to or from Chicago, ranges taken from similar-length moves booked between September 2025 and August 2026. For a car shipped to Albany, plan on $1,050 to $1,450 from Miami and $1,600 to $2,000 from Los Angeles, the middle half of our own Florida to New York and California to New York open-carrier orders since 2023.

Counted from loading, a trip between Albany and New York City or Boston takes a day, Chicago 2-3 days, and a car coming up from Miami 3-4 or across from Los Angeles 5-7. Before that, allow a short window for the driver to fill the rest of the trailer, plus a spare day if a January storm has the Northway plows out.

Briefly, sometimes. A nor’easter or a heavy upstate storm can hold a carrier for a day while roads clear, so January dates deserve a little flex on both ends. The Thruway and the Northway are priority plow routes, though, so Albany delays are usually measured in hours rather than days, and we build winter schedules with that flex included.

Center Square and the older blocks near the Hudson run narrow and parked-up, so those handoffs usually happen minutes away on a wide corridor like Washington or Central Avenue. Nearly all of the Capital Region’s suburbs take a full-size carrier straight to the driveway.

One to two weeks of notice suits most of the year. Late August brings students back to the campuses on both sides of the Hudson, so a move that week deserves more lead time, and from December through February leave a day of slack at each end. A pickup window of a few days is easier to place on a truck than a single fixed date.
