Virginia Beach Car Shipping

On an open carrier a sedan runs $350 to $550 to or from Washington, $550 to $850 to or from Charlotte, $800 to $1,150 to or from Jacksonville, $1,350 to $1,800 from San Diego and $1,450 to $1,800 to or from Seattle. San Diego is a one-way band for cars bound for Virginia Beach, from our own open-carrier orders since 2023; the other four come from similar-length moves booked between September 2025 and August 2026, and the calculator emails an estimate for your own car and dates, which a specialist then confirms.

Once the car is loaded, Washington is one day out, Charlotte and Jacksonville 1-2, and San Diego and Seattle 5-7. The truck usually reaches a Virginia Beach address one to three days after your ready date, with the hand-off hour moved around beach traffic in summer.

On the grids, yes. A base family meets the truck outside the gate, an Oceanfront address meets it on a side street off Atlantic, a Sandbridge cottage meets it on the causeway, and the Lynnhaven Parkway lot at I-264 is the fallback.

Not on base: carriers are not allowed onto either installation, so the hand-off happens at a lot outside the gate, fixed at booking and matched to your report date. Two cars can go on one order and meet the same truck, and we give you an itemized invoice for your records.

Summer weekends at the Oceanfront, and the days a homecoming crowds the roads near a base. Carriers keep running, but the hand-off moves off Atlantic Avenue to a side street or the Lynnhaven lot, and a midweek date usually means a quieter street.

Each quote covers one pickup address and one delivery address, and the calculator builds its emailed estimate from the ZIP codes. The Hampton Roads cities sit close together, so a long trip from here usually lands near the figure for Norfolk or Chesapeake; what differs locally is the water, since drivers plan around the tunnel crossings and a Southside pickup with a Peninsula delivery changes the time of day more than the price.

Read your orders first. Within the lower 48 the military generally does not ship a member’s car: you drive it and are reimbursed for the trip, so having it shipped is usually your own expense, and your transportation office can confirm what your orders cover. If you would rather fly and have the car follow, we time the pickup to your report date and set the gate-side hand-off in advance, and a call to (866) 821-4555 gets you a straight answer either way.
