A City Sold Before It Was Built
Cape Coral was platted in the late 1950s by the Rosen brothers, who dredged canals, laid out a citywide grid, and sold “waterfront wonderland” lots across the country before most streets had houses. The result today is unique: a city of roughly 400 miles of navigable canals, more than any other city in the United States, on a street grid that was designed all at once. For movers that grid is a gift: streets are straight, wide, and predictable.
