The practical rule is an empty cabin. Nothing inside the vehicle is covered by the carrier’s cargo policy, and a car obviously packed for the season invites trouble at overnight stops. Carriers generally tolerate one soft bag under about 100 pounds in the trunk; the rest of the winter wardrobe should travel with you or your movers.

A car that drips oil or coolant may be refused at pickup, because the fluid lands on the vehicle stacked beneath it. Fix leaks ahead of time.
