Wisconsin became a U.S. territory just after the American Revolution and soon after began charming settlers looking for work in its mining, lumber, and dairy sectors. It was accepted into the union as the 30th state in the United States in 1848. Years before the Civil War, Wisconsin was a vital stop on the Underground Railroad, with many enslaved people passing through the state in their search for freedom in Canada.
This day, Wisconsin leads the United States in dairy production and is popular for of its superior cheddar cheese. Wisconsin got the nickname “Badger State,” due to its earliest inhabitants who were nomadic lead miners. They resorted to delving into the hills for shelter instead of focusing on building more lasting structures.
Alvan Bovay summoned a meeting at the schoolhouse in Ripon on March 20, 1854. The purpose of the meeting was to create a new political party that will stand against the expansion of slavery. The passing of the Kansas-Nebraska Act was the trigger for this goal. The Republican Party was established during this meeting.
The first dairy school in the United States was created at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1890. Although the first class of the school had only two students in attendance, by the time it was a year old, the attendance had increased to 75. This was after Professor Stephen had only two students attended the first class. Enrollment jumped to 75 within a year after Professor Stephen Babcock came up with a development that measured the amount of butter fat in milk. Eventually referred to as the “Babcock test”, the test provided an incentive to produce high-quality milk and made provision for farmers to be paid accordingly.
In 1911, Victor Berger became the first Socialist elected to Congress. After winning the election again in 1918, the House of Representatives refused to seat him due to an unresolved legal battle involving his outspoken condemnation of U.S. involvement in World War I. By 1921, the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled in his favor and the charges against him were dismissed.
Each year Milwaukee hosts an 11-day event dubbed the “World’s Largest Music Festival,” which features more than 700 bands on 11 stages, along the shore of Lake Michigan. Created by Mayor Henry Maier in 1968, Summerfest attracts around one million attendees.

Amtrak provides daily passenger rail service between Chicago and Milwaukee through the Hiawatha Service. Also provided is cross-country service via the Empire Builder with stops in several cities across Wisconsin. Another passenger rail provider Metra’s Union Pacific North (UP-N) line has its northern terminus in Kenosha, the only Metra line and station in the state of Wisconsin. The Hop, a contemporary streetcar system in Milwaukee, began service in 2018. The 2.1 miles (3.4 km) initial line runs from Milwaukee Intermodal Station to Burns Commons. The system is anticipated to be expanded in the future.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is a governmental agency of the U.S. state of Wisconsin responsible for planning, building and maintaining the state’s highways. It is also in charge of planning transportation in the state relating to rail, including passenger rail, public transit, freight water transport, and air transport, including partial funding of the Milwaukee-to-Chicago Hiawatha Service provided by Amtrak.

The Fox–Wisconsin Waterway is a waterway created by the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers. First used by European settlers in 1673 during the voyage of Marquette & Joliet. It was one of the primary routes used by travelers between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River until the completion of the Illinois and Michigan Canal in 1848 and the arrival of railroads. The western terminus of the Fox–Wisconsin Waterway was at the Mississippi at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. It progressed up the Wisconsin River about 116 miles (187 km) until reaching Portage, Wisconsin. Their travelers would convey to the Upper Fox River, or eventually, use the Portage Canal. It continued about 160 miles (257 km) down the Fox River, following it through Lake Winnebago and continuing on the Lower Fox over 170 feet (50 m) of falls to the eastern terminus of Green Bay.
By mid-19th century, the waterway had improved with several locks, dams, and canals, including the 2-mile (3 km) Portage Canal between the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers. All the locks were not completed until 1876, well after the Illinois and Michigan Canal and at the point where the move from canals to railroads was in full swing. Later development on the waterway introduced barriers to navigation, such as the dam at Prairie du Sac. The use of the waterway was never significant and it gradually died out. The Portage Canal was closed in 1951 and most of the Upper Fox River locks and dams fell into disuse. The lock system on the Lower Fox River, from Lake Winnebago to Green Bay, was shut down in 1983 to prevent the upstream spread of invasive species such as the lamprey.
The Fox-Wisconsin, however, is no longer used as a transportation route between the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes. Various reaches of the waterway enjoy significant recreational use. Plans are well advanced for reopening the Lower Fox locks and dams.

Driver contacted me promptly and met all promised phone contacts and meeting points for pickup and drop off. Driver was clean, courteous, friendly and familiar with the drop off point. Driver noted on the contract each blemish as I took pictures of my car. Car was delivered in excellent condition. As was hoped, car was dropped off on the early end of the delivery time spectrum. I had a seamless first-time vehicle transport experience with Ship A Car, inc. I know that is largely because of Bob M., the coordinator who helped me. Personable, patient, professional, always willing to answer further questions, he gave me excellent customer service and I greatly appreciate it! I was so nervous and dreading getting started but Bob put me at ease and I quickly gained great confidence in the company because of his easy and knowledgeable communication. In addition, the driver dispatched to move my car from Los Angeles To St Petersburg, Florida was punctual, called when he was supposed to, prior to pickup/delivery, and made great time completing the transport. He picked up Monday around 2 pm and delivered at 9 am on that Friday. I have nothing but praise for Ship A Car, Inc. and enthusiastically recommend them!

Willie Dublin assisted me on a short notice request to have my two vehicles, a Honda Odyssey and a Hyundai Elantra shipped from Santee, CA to Round Rock, Tx. I initially had set-up a request with another company a month prior , told them my situation and the day I needed it due to my wife's and my job that would require transportation. They told me they can deliver on the requested date. The day prior of the initial pick-up, I received an email that changed the pick-up to 3 days later and a possible whole week before the car would make it. They told me that I never specified the need and that they told me that they said the pick-up could be 3 days prior. They had a whole month to find a transport company to fit that transport request. I cancelled with them, called Willie D. at ship a car inc and he had me set-up with a pick-up day the same day. He was fast, efficient and had great communication the whole way. I would recommend Ship a car inc and Willie D. if you can request him for anyone moving out of state. I also would like to thank Carlos at Carlos Transport who Willie D. found as he was very professional, on time and delivered on the day needed. Very grateful to both of them. Relieved a lot of stress on our out of state move.
