Everything You Need to Know About the State of South Carolina (SC)
Settled by the English in 1670, South Carolina became the eighth state to ratify the U.S. constitution in 1788. Its early economy was largely agricultural, benefitting from the area’s fertile soil, and plantation farmers relied on the slave trade for cheap labor to maximize their profits. By 1730, people of African descent made up two-thirds of the colony population. South Carolina became the first state to secede from the union in 1861 and was the site of the first shots of the Civil War–the shelling of the federally held Fort Sumter by Confederate troops on April 12, 1861.
Today, the South Carolina coastline near Myrtle Beach has developed into one of the premier resort destinations on the East Coast and has over 100 golf courses. Famous South Carolinians include musicians James Brown, Chubby Checker, and Dizzy Gillespie, novelist Pat Conroy, boxer Joe Frazier, tennis champion Althea Gibson, politician Jesse Jackson and long-serving U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond.
Charleston welcomed a shipment of golf balls and clubs from Scotland as early as 1743. On September 29, 1786, the South Carolina Golf Club was formed and, within the same year, America’s first golf course was established on Harleston Green. In 2011, there were more than 350 golf courses within the state of South Carolina.
After capturing Columbia on February 17, 1865, Union soldiers under General William Tecumseh Sherman burned and destroyed more than two-thirds of the city. Due to scarce funding following the war, the new State House was not rebuilt until 1903.
On November 2, 1954, former governor Strom Thurmond became the first person to be elected to the U.S. Senate as a write-in candidate, winning 63 percent of the vote. Thurmond served the state of South Carolina as a senator for 47 years, five months, and eight days.
In 2000, the Confederate flag was removed from the dome on top of the State House and placed on the grounds near the Confederate Soldier Monument in response to an NAACP boycott of the state and protests over its legacy. More than 10 years later, the flag’s location continues to be the subject of ongoing controversy.
The only commercial tea plantation in the contiguous 48 states is on Wadmalaw Island, near Charleston, South Carolina. The palmetto tree has been an important icon of South Carolina since the American Revolutionary War. When the British attacked a fort on Sullivan’s Island, near Charleston, the cannonballs bounced off the spongy palmetto logs used to build the exterior wall.
What Influences the Cost of Shipping to South Carolina?
Distance Covered
The distance between the location of pick-up and delivery affects the cost of shipping. It is quite obvious that it would cost more to transport a car across longer distances than shorter ones. This increase in cost is due to factors such as fuel consumed, additional labor, time taken, and so on.
Size and State of Vehicle
Larger vehicles cost more to transport than smaller cars. Larger vehicles are heavier and take up more space on the truck which affects fuel consumed and the number of cars that can be transported at the same time. Whether a car is running or not also affects shipping costs. Operable vehicles are cheaper and relatively easier to transport. Immobile vehicles require special types of equipment to move and are consequently more expensive to transport.
Type of shipping
There are two main types of shipping and they include open auto carrier transport and enclosed auto carrier transport. It is economical to ship your car with open carrier transport and it is readily available in most shipping companies. The major limitation of this type of shipping is that there is no protective covering shielding your vehicle from the elements. In enclosed carrier transport, your vehicle is shielded from road debris and the elements. It is however more expensive than the open-air alternative.
How to Ship your Vehicle Cost Effectively?
Price should not be the determining factor when you are trying to select a company to ship your car. You should always consider the overall efficiency of a company. The following are a couple of tips to help you ship your vehicle cost-effectively:
Avoid emergency shipping; you would have to pay more if you want your shipping expedited. If you are looking to reduce costs then you should give the company enough time to deliver your vehicle.
You can drop off your car at an agreed location and pick it up when it gets delivered. This is usually the case when you order for terminal-to-terminal shipping.
Auto shipping companies tend to be more expensive during certain periods of the year such as during the summers when they are busiest. Try to schedule your shipping to periods when auto transport companies have less business.
If possible, try to avoid shipping during the holidays because shipping quotes tend to be higher during these periods.
Tips for Selecting an Effective Auto Shipping Company
Research thoroughly about companies that offer the services you require. Companies offer different services, make sure the auto transport company you decide to use is fully equipped to handle your demands.
Get recommendations from family and friends. You can also get reviews of different companies online. A background check on a company’s activities helps you understand how they operate.
Make sure you are well-educated about the insurance policy of the company you want to hire. Sometimes accidents happen during transit that could lead to some form of damage to your vehicle, information about the company’s insurance coverage will provide you with an understanding of what kind of damage will be covered by the company.
Hire a company that is fully licensed to operate in the country to avoid falling into the hand of scammers.

The state has the fourth largest state-maintained system in the country, consisting of 11 Interstates, numbered highways, state highways, and secondary roads, totaling approximately 41,500 miles.
On secondary roads, South Carolina uses a numbering system to keep track of all non-interstate and primary highways that the South Carolina Department of Transportation maintains. Secondary roads are numbered by the number of the county followed by a unique number for the particular road.
There are seven significant airports in South Carolina, all of which act as regional airport hubs. The busiest by passenger volume is Charleston International Airport. Just across the border in North Carolina is Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, the 30th busiest airport in the world, in terms of passengers.
At the start of the twenty-first century, the South Carolina State Ports Authority operated, without state appropriations, three ports in the state: Charleston, Georgetown, and Port Royal. The modern port of Charleston, a container port, is South Carolina’s busiest, handling trade with 140 nations.

The price was right with Ship A Car and their guy was friendly on the phone. His name is David and he did a really good job. My UTV went from Racine to Las Vegas then from Las Vegas back to Racine. Each one was about three to four days. I just called the rep and told him to call me about a day before he got there and an hour before he got there.
They dropped the UTV off in Vegas with my buddy. When we brought it back to Racine, I was there and they gave me a call and told me the time the driver was gonna be there. I met him there and we took the UTV off the truck. It was just exactly the way I left it. The final price for the service was pretty much almost exactly what it was supposed to be. I was very happy with Ship A Car and I'd recommend it

Do not give these people your money. I paid them their $300 deposit to have a driver sent to my location. The driver showed up 2 days late at 10pm and said he couldn’t tow my trailer because my brakes didn’t work and took $400 from me and said I can get my money back from SHIP A CAR INC. Well the driver and this company seemed sketchy and so I called another company to tow it. They towed it on time, without issue, with no complaints about my brakes, for much less. When I called SHIP A CAR INC to see if I can get any of the $700 dollars (which I spent for them to do absolutely nothing for me) back they said they would get in contact with me. Each time I’ve called back they say, again, they will call me later. This has happened 3 times and now I am fed up with waiting. It took me just a couple google searches to find a much more reliable and inexpensive company, who didn’t steal from me, so I recommend you search a little longer and find someone else.

Contacted Nicole at "Ship a Car" about transporting vehicle from MI to NC. She had a driver dispatched in a 24 hours! Costs was reasonable, but most importantly, the actual costs didn't change from the quoted costs. Excellent Service. Thx Nicole.

We talked with Steve he was very professional. We had a bad experience with trying to find a company to ship our car. This was the second company we found after the first one kept delaying our pick up on of the car and changing the price everytime we talked to them. They gave one flat price, no hidden fees, and no extra costs. Shipped from California to Texas. Great experience if we ever have to move long distance again we will use this company to ship one of our cars again.

Ship a Car was fantastic, and Willie D. provided extraordinary customer service. I have had numerous items shipped across the county in the past. However, this transaction with Willie D. and Ship-a-Car has clearly been the most trouble free and professional. I would use them again, and completely recommend them to other users.

I will never use this company again nor would I recommend that any consumer use it. Not only did my car not arrive a week after the allotted 6-10 day quote, the communication was horrible and evasive. They did not take responsibility for our car's whereabouts and had no answers as to when the car would arrive. They refused to reimburse me for the rental car I was forced to get because of this delay. At one point when I was trying to get to the bottom of what was happening the associate hung up on me. He had given me the run around for 3 days and never returned my calls. I am a very patient person and I knew there would be a delay given the holiday weekend. I padded that into my time but the lack of communication and lack of respect of my situation was totally unprofessional and frustrating. As I am writing this we still don't have our car.
