Everything You Need to Know About the State of North Dakota (ND)
The land that today makes up North Dakota became the U.S .territory as part of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The region was originally part of the Minnesota and Nebraska territories, until, along with South Dakota, it was organized into the Dakota Territory in 1861. The state was very sparsely populated until the arrival of the railroads in the late 1800s, and finally became a state in 1889.
During the run-up to statehood, there was an intense rivalry between North and South Dakota over which state would be admitted to the union first. When the time came for their formal admission, President Benjamin Harrison selected at random which bill to sign first and did not record the order in which the bills were signed, though North Dakota is traditionally listed first. The state is renowned for its scenic “badlands,” which are part of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Originally conceived in 1928 by Dr. Henry Moore of Ontario, Canada, the International Peace Garden was intended to establish a memorial to perpetual peace between Canada and the United States. Encompassing 2,339 acres within North Dakota and the Canadian province of Manitoba, the park attracted 50,000 visitors to its grand opening and dedication on July 14, 1932.
Theodore Roosevelt, who once credited his time spent in the North Dakota Badlands as critical to becoming the 26th president of the United States, fostered a legacy of resource conservation that has been memorialized by the creation of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Comprising three distinct units in western North Dakota, the park covers more than 70,000 acres.
Attempts to drop the word “North” and rename the state “Dakota” was defeated by the legislature in both 1947 and 1989.
The geographical center of North America—marked by a 21-foot monument constructed out of stones—lies in the town of Rugby, North Dakota.
In 1999, a teenager discovered a “dinosaur mummy” on his uncle’s ranch near Marmarth. The 67 million-year-old duck-billed hadrosaur was so well preserved that much of its bones, tendons, and ligaments remained enclosed in the skin.
Agriculture is North Dakota’s leading industry, which employed nearly 24 percent of the state’s residents in 2010. The largest producer of about a dozen crops, North Dakota supplied 90 percent of the nation’s canola and 95 percent of its flaxseed in 2010.
Vehicle Shipping to North Dakota
North Dakota is a great place to be, with low crime rates, low cost of living affordable housing, it is a “happy” state. However, moving to a new state is no walk in the park especially when you have to transport vehicles and heavy freights but the services of a good transport company will help ease the whole process.
Factors Influencing the Cost of Shipping Your Vehicle to North Dakota
The cost of moving your vehicle depends on a number of things. The following are some of the major factors to consider:
Location
The location of pick-up and delivery greatly influences shipping quotes. For instance, if your vehicle is located in a major city close to the shipping terminal, you have a better chance of spending less. However, if you are located in a rural area, you are most likely going to pay more because the shipping company has to leave major roads which oftentimes get less business than major routes.
Distance
As expected, the longer the distance the higher the cost of shipping. More fuel is consumed during long travels and the possibility of encountering issues is also increased. It is relatively cheaper to transport vehicles along short distances than across the country.
Delivery Schedule
Being flexible with your delivery helps you get lower shipping quotes. It is always a good idea to plan, to avoid paying more for expedited shipping. Giving the shipping company a flexible shipping schedule provides enough room for them to efficiently plan their itinerary which consequently reduces the cost of shipping
Size and Condition of the Vehicle
The size of your vehicle is another major factor that affects the cost of shipping. Larger vehicles are more expensive to transport because they take up more space on auto carriers and they affect also affect fuel consumption. Smaller vehicles are relatively cheaper to transport because several cars can be transported at the same time.
The condition of the vehicle you are to transport also affects the cost of shipping. You should inform the company about any modifications in your vehicle; you should also let them know if your car is running or not. Inoperable vehicles are expensive to transport because special equipment is required to load the vehicle unto the auto carrier. Operable vehicles are relatively cheaper to transport because they are easy to move.
Shipping Method
Here, there are two options, terminal-to-terminal shipping, and door-to-door shipping. With the door-to-door option, you would have to drop off your vehicle at the shipping terminal and pick it up when it is delivered to the terminal in North Dakota. This option is economical. The door-to-door option is more expensive but it is worth it in the long run because it is easier and your vehicle would be delivered right to any destination you want.
Type of Auto Transport Used
The type of auto carrier you choose to deliver your vehicle also affects the cost of shipping. There are mainly two types of auto carriers: open auto carriers and enclosed auto carriers. Open auto carriers are readily available in all auto transport companies. With this option, your vehicle is safely fastened to the back of a trailer, and several cars can be transported at the same time. It is cheaper than the enclosed carrier option. The downside is that your vehicle would be exposed to the elements and road debris.
In enclosed carrier transport your vehicle would be better protected, this type is transport is advisable if you are transporting a high-end vehicle. It is relatively more expensive
Things to Consider When Selecting an Auto Shipping Company
The Legitimacy of the Company
The company you decide to use must have all the paperwork to legally operate in North Dakota. The company should be registered and fully licensed to operate. This measure would prevent you from falling into the hands of scammers.
Insurance Policy
Transporting a vehicle along long distances can be occasionally unpredictable. Some unforeseen occurrences can occur along the way which could cause some damage. Make inquiries about the type of damage the insurance policy of the company offers. You can also purchase additional insurance to be on the safer side
Shipping Quotes
You can get shipping quotes from different companies to have an idea of the average cost of shipping your vehicle. Most companies have a website from which you can get this information. Also, it is important to note that cost should not the only factor you consider when choosing a company. Make sure you select a company based on competency.
Experience Level of the Company
The auto transport business requires a lot of expertise to get the job done. It is always a good idea to use services that have a track record of successful deliveries.

Amtrak’s Empire Builder runs through North Dakota, making stops at Fargo (2:13 am westbound, 3:35 am eastbound), Grand Forks (4:52 am westbound, 12:57 am eastbound), Minot (around 9 am westbound and around 9:30 pm eastbound), and four other stations. It is the descendant of the famous line of the same name run by the Great Northern Railway, which was built by the tycoon James J. Hill and ran from St. Paul to Seattle.
Transportation in North Dakota is overseen by the North Dakota Department of Transportation. The major Interstate highways are Interstate 29 and Interstate 94, with I-29 and I-94 meeting at Fargo, with I-29 oriented north to south along the eastern edge of the state, and I-94 bisecting the state from east to west between Minnesota and Montana. A unique feature of the North Dakota Interstate Highway system is virtually all of it is paved in concrete, not blacktop, because of the extreme weather conditions it must endure. BNSF and the Canadian Pacific Railway operate the state’s largest rail systems. Many branch lines formerly used by BNSF and Canadian Pacific Railway are now operated by the Dakota, Missouri Valley, and Western Railroad and the Red River Valley and Western Railroad.
North Dakota’s principal airports are the Hector International Airport (FAR) in Fargo, Grand Forks International Airport (GFK), Bismarck Municipal Airport (BIS), Minot International Airport (MOT), and Williston Basin International Airport (XWA) in Williston.

Meredith A. was wonderful from start to finish. She not only kept me informed during the booking of the drivers, all the way to the delivery of the car. She made sure to circle back once the car had been delivered to double check everything went according to plan. Drivers were professional and kind. I'll be sure to recommend to anyone who needs auto transport!

I had an excellent experience working with Mike Logan from Ship a car, Inc. He gave me a better quote than I had found elsewhere online. From the time I got a quote from him to the time my car was picked up was 24 hours. It was also delivered to Florida a day early. The driver was Albert from Arizona Shipping. He was excellent. I was able to contact him to know the status of the delivery at any time. I am very please with both Ship a car, Inc. and Arizona Shipping. I would recommend these companies and I plan to use them again in the future.

Not a good experience with Ship a Car. First off, they were $300 more than other shippers in the area, but I used them based on their good reputation. I was assured that their company picked up and delivered on the days requested. Well, I requested they car be picked up on Saturday or Sunday, which I was assured it would be. However, the car wasn't picked up until Monday evening. I also requested the car to be delivered on Tuesday or Thursday. It was delivered on Wednesday morning during rush hour. The driver blocked the neighbors driveway, and had to move the truck. The driver also told me the wrong amount owed, and when he came I had to run to the ATM to get more cash. At no time during this process did the company call me to advise me of the changes in pickup and delivery. I emailed the gentleman at Ship a Car stating my dissatisfaction, get promised to get back to me in a day or two. As of this review it has been four days with no callback. I would advise people to choose another option when shipping an automobile.

Peter Minko provided excellent service, I had talked to peter months before regarding another move that I no longer needed, I had misplaced Ship a Car's info and I was trying to get my sister car shipped from California to North Carolina, everybody's quotes where all over the place and all the other companies stated that nobody was moving that direction or to that state. I had finally accepted a offer from another company that ended up giving me the run around and after awhile would not return my messages. Then out of the blue Peter Minko called with Ship a Car and I accepted his offer, Basically everything came to a HAPPY ENDING and I would use Ship a Car again and nobody else for future car shipping needs.
