New Jersey Transit offers extensive statewide rail service. Now, eleven commuter rail lines operated by the New Jersey Transit pass through various regions of the state. Most lines terminate at either Hoboken Terminal in Hoboken or Penn Station in New York City. A single line connects Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Atlantic City. Additionally, it runs three light rail networks throughout the state. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail links Bayonne to North Bergen through Hoboken and Jersey City. The PATH is a rapid transit system with four lines managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. It links Hoboken, Jersey City, Harrison, and Newark with New York. The PATCO Speedline is a rapid transit system connecting Camden County to Philadelphia. PATCO and PATH are the only two rapid transit systems in the United States to operate 24 hours a day.
Amtrak operates numerous long-distance passenger trains in New Jersey, to and from neighboring states, and around the country. The New Jersey Turnpike is one of the primary and busiest roads in the United States. This toll road overlaps Interstate 95 for most of its length. It is routed between Delaware and New York and up and down the East Coast. Simply referred to as “the Turnpike”, it is known for its numerous restful areas named after prominent New Jerseyites.
The state is connected to New York City by various major bridges and tunnels. The double-decked George Washington Bridge has the greatest motor vehicle traffic than any other bridge. This traffic is estimated at 102 million vehicles per year across fourteen lanes. It includes Fort Lee, New Jersey, to the Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan.

It is unlawful for customers to fill their gasoline in New Jersey. The state also became the last remaining U.S. state where all gas stations are required to sell full-service gas to customers at all times.
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of the busiest and popular airports in the United States. Operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, it is one of the three main airports serving the New York metropolitan area. United Airlines is the airport’s largest tenant, operating an entire terminal there, which it uses as one of its primary hubs. FedEx Express operates a large cargo terminal at EWR as well. The adjacent Newark Airport railroad station provides access to Amtrak and NJ Transit trains along the Northeast Corridor Line.
Two smaller commercial airports, Atlantic City International Airport and rapidly growing Trenton-Mercer Airport, also operate in other parts of the state. Teterboro Airport in Bergen County, and Millville Municipal Airport in Cumberland County, are general aviation airports popular with private and corporate aircraft due to their proximity to New York City and the Jersey Shore, respectively.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Delaware River Port Authority, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, and the Delaware River and Bay Authority manage most of the major transportation routes in and out of New Jersey. Bridge tolls are retrieved from vehicles exiting the state. The only exception is the private Dingman’s Ferry Bridge over the Delaware River. It charges a toll in both directions.
New York Waterway has ferry terminals at Belford, Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, and Edgewater, servicing different parts of Manhattan. Liberty Water Taxi in New Jersey has ferries from Paulus Hook and Liberty State Park to Battery Park City in Manhattan. Statue Cruises offers services from Liberty State Park to the Statue of Liberty National Monument, including Ellis Island. SeaStreak offers services from the Raritan Bayshore to Manhattan, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
The Delaware River and Bay Authority operate the Cape May–Lewes Ferry on Delaware Bay, carrying both passengers and vehicles between New Jersey and Delaware. The agency also operates the Forts Ferry Crossing for passengers across the Delaware River. In addition, the Delaware River Port Authority operates the RiverLink Ferry between the Camden waterfront and Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia.

We strongly recommend contacting a shipping company directly. For the $225 fee we had little or no communication from pick-up (we were able to find the name/number of the driver we were told was going to pick up our bike -- but he was unaware he was supposed to pick it up and wouldn't have on the scheduled day had we not contacted him) until delivery unless we initiated and tracked down individuals, most of who were drivers and unable to assist us as to located the bike and determining a deliver date. The estimated delivery date was off by a full week and attempts to find a more accurate delivery date was unsuccessful (though we did manage to contact a driver that left the bike in Oklahoma City -- though courtesous and wanting to be helpful, couldn't help us). We received less than 24 hours notice of delivery. Finally, even the payment instructions were in error so that when the bike was finally delivered, the form of payment (a cashier's check as we were instructed to prepare) was not correct. We ended up paying by credit card, not a problem, but seems like a simple detail that a brokerage company should be aware of. Instead, we wasted time one evening to go to our bank to secure an unnecessary cashier's check. My advice? Bypass this broker company and contact shipper directly. We gained no advantage or service worth the $225 on top of the $525 to ship the bike. We could have saved $225 OR spent the combined $750 on renting a truck, fuel and one night hotel to transport it ourselves with more predictability.
