The ocean leg runs three to seven days on weekly sailings, with a few days of port processing around it. Door to door, count one to two weeks from Puget Sound and three to five weeks from most other lower-48 origins, depending on how the inland leg meets the vessel cutoff.

Stricter than a highway move. The tank at a quarter or less, nothing loose inside beyond the spare, the jack, and child seats, every key, the registration, and a lender’s written authorization on a financed car. Have the battery tested and the antifreeze rated for deep cold before it ships; an Anchorage winter is the toughest inspector the car will meet.

Usually not for the first vehicle. On PCS orders to Alaska the government ships one POV at its expense through the port system, so you do not pay anyone for that one. No. The sailings run all year, and the Port of Alaska works through the season, so vehicles keep moving in January the same as July. What winter changes is the land legs: allow an extra day or two of flexibility on both ends, make sure the battery is strong since the car will sit in cold storage between legs, and note that a vehicle arriving in winter should have fuel appropriate for the temperature swing.
