Shipping a Car To or From Aurora, Colorado
Aurora is bigger than people expect and it sits in hail country, and those two facts cover most of what is specific about shipping a car here. It is Colorado’s third largest city, spread across roughly 160 square miles and three counties, so where you are inside it changes how the pickup goes. And the Front Range gets more severe hail than almost anywhere in the country, which is the one local factor that genuinely belongs in your open versus enclosed decision.
Where You Are in Aurora Changes the Pickup
Aurora runs from the older neighborhoods bordering Denver out to new subdivisions on the plains, and a 75 foot carrier does not treat those the same way.
- West Aurora, near Colfax and the Denver line, is the oldest part of the city. Streets are narrower, on street parking is tighter and mature trees hang low. Expect the driver to suggest a nearby lot rather than your block.
- Central Aurora along I-225 is the easy case. The interstate runs through the middle of the city, and anywhere within a few minutes of it is straightforward for a carrier to reach.
- Southeast Aurora, out toward Southlands and Tallyn’s Reach, is newer, with wide roads and driveways. True door to door is realistic here.
- Apartment and condo complexes anywhere in the city are their own case. Many have height restricted entrances and no room to turn, so the handoff happens on a public street or in an adjacent lot.

Hail Season Is the Real Local Variable
Colorado sits in the part of the country that gets the most damaging hail, and the Denver metro takes the worst of it. A single storm across the metro in May 2017 remains the costliest insured catastrophe in state history. Aurora is squarely inside that footprint.
The season runs roughly from May into September, with the worst of it in early and mid summer. What it means for transport is simple and worth being direct about: a vehicle on an open trailer is exposed to weather, and no carrier can promise otherwise. Open transport remains the right choice for most cars most of the time, because the odds of meeting a severe storm on any given trip are low.
Where it changes the answer is on a car whose paint you actually care about. If you are moving something new, freshly repainted, collectible or simply expensive to refinish, and you are moving it in June or July, enclosed transport is worth the 20 to 30 percent more than it usually is. Outside those months the argument is much weaker.

Summer Is Busier Here Than in Most Cities
Aurora has three sources of demand that all land in the same months. General moving season peaks in summer everywhere. Buckley Space Force Base sits inside the city, and military relocation concentrates from roughly May through August. And the Anschutz Medical Campus is the region’s largest medical center, so the national residency and fellowship calendar brings a wave of arrivals around the start of July.

Getting a Carrier In and Out
Access here is genuinely good. I-225 cuts through the city and ties into I-70 at the north end and I-25 at the south, so a carrier can reach most of Aurora without working through surface streets. E-470 runs along the eastern edge as a bypass, and Denver International Airport sits just beyond the city’s northern boundary.
That last point is useful if you are flying in. Rather than trying to line up a delivery to an address you have not moved into yet, ask about a handoff near the airport or at a large lot along I-225 on the day you land. Drivers running this metro do it constantly.
Preparing the Vehicle
Standard preparation applies and the pre-pickup checklist covers it. Wash the car so existing marks show, photograph every panel in daylight including the roof, empty it of personal items, and leave about a quarter tank of fuel.
Photographing the roof and hood matters more here than in most places. If the car has existing hail dimples, and plenty of Colorado cars do, get them documented at pickup so there is no argument later about what arrived with the vehicle and what did not.
At delivery, inspect before signing. Compare against your photographs and the pickup condition report, start the engine, and note anything unexpected on the bill of lading while the driver is present.
Common Questions
Should I ship enclosed because of hail? Only if the paint is worth protecting and you are moving in early summer. For an ordinary car outside those months, open is the sensible choice.
Can the truck reach my street? In southeast Aurora, usually. In older west Aurora and at most apartment complexes, expect a nearby meeting point instead.
How far ahead should I book? Three to four weeks from May through August, one to two weeks the rest of the year.
Can you deliver near the airport? Yes, and it is a common arrangement for people flying in ahead of their belongings.
Is transport insured? Carriers must hold cargo coverage, and you should ask to see the certificate. Personal items left in the car are not covered, which is one reason to empty it.
