Auto Transport in Minnesota

You may need to have your car shipped into or out of Minnesota for many different reasons. For example, relocating in or out of the state, work, school, and vacations are a few of them. Here are the things you need to know about vehicle transport in the state of Minnesota.

Factors Influencing the Cost of Vehicle Shipping in Minnesota

The shipping cost is often influenced by several factors and is typically not fixed. Hence, the need to request a quote based on your specifications. The following are all factors to be considered.

1. Weather

Transporting is usually easier in certain weather than in others. Snowy and rainy weather are the most difficult to navigate and, consequently, are a tad bit more expensive to ship in and usually take longer for the entire transport process. Unless necessary, it is best to have your car shipped in more conducive weather.

2. Vehicle Size

As can be expected, vehicles that weigh more cost more to be shipped. The same applies to the size of the car. Bigger vehicles take up more space and thereby cost more to be shipped. If you have options of cars to ship, it is advisable to ship the smallest if you are trying to cut costs.

3. Location

Some areas in Minnesota are more accessible than others. You are likely to pay less if your pick-up or drop-off location is situated in an easily accessible and frequently travelled to area. It costs more transporting cars to inaccessible areas that are off the beaten path.

4. Distance

The distance between your pick-up and drop-off location significantly affects car shipping costs. You can expect to pay more for distances far apart than for closer ones.

What to Do Before Shipping

There are preparations you should make before your car is shipped. These preparations should be put in place even if you are pressed for time, as they ensure your vehicle is in the best condition to be shipped.

1. Take Pictures

It is best to take pictures of your car before it is shipped. This is to enable you to confirm that no physical harm was done to it in transit. Auto transport companies take responsibility for any damage to your car in their care. Hence, pictures serve as proof of your car’s state before shipping.

It is essential to add the importance of engaging an auto shipping company with insurance coverage. Any damage to your car by a company without insurance will lead to a messy occurrence.

2. Do Not Fill Your Gas Tank

As mentioned earlier, the weight of your car determines its shipping costs. A filled gas tank results in a heavier car and, consequently, a higher shipping cost. While it is not advisable to empty your tank, it is best to have enough gas in it for drop-off and pick-up. Three-quarters capacity is sufficient for this.

3. Empty Contents

There are two reasons you should empty your car of its unnecessary contents. One is to reduce the car’s overall weight, and the other is for safety purposes. Auto transport companies are not responsible for any loss of personal items. Therefore, you should remove all personal items and valuables from the car before shipment.

4. Ready Documents

You should confirm that all necessary documents for your car are made available. The documents should be accompanied by the other requirements of the transport company.

The customer service at Ship A Car Inc was very good. They did what they could do for me in the time frame they could. I had just come out of a bad experience with a previous company, so I really appreciated that. They shipped my vehicle cross-country from Las Vegas to Michigan within the time frame they had said, with no damage. The price was just what they said it would be over the phone- no extras or anything. It was decently priced. The person on the phone was very professional and a good spokesperson for the company. She told me what they could allow to happen as far as delivering it on time. This was the first time I used them and I would go back again.

The first issue I had with this shipment was when the Ship A Car sales rep called after we had agreed and on a price, I signed an order confirmation, paid the deposit by credit card and got a dispatch notice. About an hour later, the sales rep called me back to inform me that the driver wanted $200 more for the transport. At this point, I suppose I should have told him to find another driver, but I was anxious to get the car delivered in a timely manner. The second issue came on the Saturday my vehicle was to be delivered in the morning. I texted the driver who said he would be to my residence (in NY State) that evening and he included a picture of a Google map which included the Shiawasee River. I looked this up and found that it was in Michigan. I understand that you have to be a bit flexible, but later that late afternoon I got another text expressing that they would arrive at 3:00 am Sunday morning and would it be OK to take the delivery then. Again, I suppose I could have postponed delivery, but by this time I just wanted to be through with this process and said OK. They arrived at 4:15 am on Sunday and delivered the vehicle with no damage. It was not the worst experience, but it certainly would not merit a 5 star review.

Car was shipped from PA to Las Vegas. Unload was rush rush and car was covered in dust/dirt. As most would do....Gave a cursory look over of the car and signed the bill of lading hurredly. Days later cleaned the car and found black duct tape covering a crack on the rear fiberglass spoiler. A deliberate and premeditated effort to hide the damage. Contacted ship-a-car. Justin V. Had ALWAYS been overly helpful and polite. Much to my dismay when I contacted the sub contractors insurance company they said the subs insurance was not in force. This is In direct contradiction of my agreement with shipACar. I’m hoping shipACar comes thru. Stay tuned. I will keep you posted. Weeks later. STILL NO RESPONSE/SATISFACTION Ship A Car inc sent m a subcontractor who did not have insurance in effect. I shipped FOUR cars cross country with shipacar Four. The sub hid damage under dirt and black duct tape. Shipacar basically said I did not note the damage on the bill of lading. It was hidden and they hired uninsured sub. Be aware. Spread the word. I gave them a chance to settle for a fraction of the damage. Ignored. W S. Las Vegas.

I want to thank you for making a difficult situation (moving our daughter's car) so much easier. The driver you choose for us was amazing. He was kind and professional and even got the car to New Hampshire earlier than we thought. Your help and time were invaluable to me. Knowing that my daughter would have her car in her new home was a great comfort to us both. Thank you for taking the time to answer questions, calm fears, and adding a laugh to an otherwise stressful event.
