Everything You Need to Know About the State of Utah (UT)
Mountains, high plateaus, and wilderness form most of Utah’s countryside. At Four Corners, in the southeast, Utah gets together Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona at right angles, the only such meeting of states in the country. Utah became the 45th associate of the union on Jan. 4, 1896, with Salt Lake City as its capital.
Utah is acknowledged for having some of the best skiing in the country, and the mountains close to Salt Lake City receive an average of 500 inches of snow per year. Throughout the 19th century, many Mormons settled in Utah, and today approximately 60 percent of the state’s inhabitants are members of the church. The Sundance Film Festival, one of the premier independent film festivals in the world, is held each January in Park City.
In the summer of 1848, flocks of seagulls came to Mormon pioneers’ rescue by gorging themselves on the crickets that obliterated their recently planted crops. To honor the “miracle,” the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dedicated the Seagull Monument, located on Temple Square, in 1913. In 1955, the California Seagull was designated the state bird.
On May 10, 1869, the first transcontinental railroad was completed when the Union and Central Pacific Railroads joined rails at Promontory Summit in Utah Territory. A tie made of California laurelwood bearing a silver plaque with the railroad’s completion date and four precious metal spikes was presented during the Golden Spike Ceremony; however, a usual tie and iron spikes were used to unite the rail lines.
Although yearly precipitation averages less than 5 inches within the Great Salt Lake Desert, the northern Wasatch Mountains receive more than 60. All through the lack of 1976-1977, communities were forced to ration water as the state suffered from its driest period on record with only 7.7 inches of precipitation.
In 2010, Utah had the youngest residents in the U.S. with 33 percent of residents under the age of 18. It also maintained the highest birth rate, with 86.7 births per 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 44.
Arches National Park in southeastern Utah includes over 2,000 natural rock arches. The widest, recognized as Landscape Arch, extends 306 feet from one base to the other.

Types of Shipping
Your choice of shipping would depend mostly on your budget and the kind of vehicle you want to transport. The following are the two main types of shipping:
Open Auto Carrier Shipping: This is the common type of auto carrier where your vehicle would be transported in an open trailer. It can typically carry several vehicles at the same time; the downside to this type of shipping is that your vehicle would be exposed to the elements and bad weather conditions.
Enclosed auto carrier shipping: Here, your car would be transported in a closed compartment. If you have a sports car or a classic, this type of shipping is relatively safer as it protects your car from road dirt and bad weather. Most of these kinds of trucks are built to handle low-ground cars and oftentimes have cushioned walls to protect high-end vehicles.
What Factors Affect the Cost of Shipping to Utah?
Distance and location of delivery
The distance between where you intend to ship your vehicle and Utah affects the overall cost of shipping. Longer distance translates to more fuel consumption and additional miles to the truck. It is cheaper to move vehicles across shorter distances like within Utah and around the neighboring states than farther distances like across the country. The location of delivery also affects the cost of shipping; it would be cheaper to ship to major cities than to rural areas that are unfamiliar to truck drivers. Delivery to rural areas also tends to take more time and often the auto carriers would have to deliver just that one order unlike in major cities where several deliveries can be made in one trip.
Vehicle Type
The size and weight of the vehicle you want to transport affect your shipping quote. Larger cars take up more space on the auto carrier, consequently reducing the number of cars that can be transported at once. The weight of the auto carrier affects its fuel consumption and that is why heavier vehicles are more expensive to transport because of the increase in fuel consumption. Whether your vehicle is running is another determining factor in the cost of shipping. It is easier and cheaper to transport an operable vehicle than an inoperable one. When you are trying to get shipping quotes, inform the company about the type and condition of the vehicle you are shipping.
Time of the Year
Auto shipping companies are busy during certain periods of the year and shipping quotes tend to be higher during those periods. For instance, in summer when families schedule relocation to tally with the new school year. Also, most people tend to ship their cars during good weather conditions.
Type of Delivery
The type of delivery entails the location of pick-up and delivery. There are two major options when it comes to the type of delivery and it includes; terminal-to-terminal shipping and door-to-door shipping. In door-to-door shipping, your car would be picked up at the address you want and delivered to the agreed address in Utah. This type of delivery is more expensive than terminal-to-terminal shipping where you would drop off your car at the shipping terminal and pick it up when it gets delivered to the terminal in Utah.
Type of shipping
It should be noted that enclosed auto carrier shipping costs more than the open carrier alternative. When shipping a vehicle, however, costs should not be the only determining factor, you should always consider the protection of your vehicle to avoid even spending more in the long run
How to Select a Good Auto Shipping Company?
The following are a few tips to guide you when choosing a company to ship your vehicle.
Get reviews from previous customers online. Check how the company responds to negative reviews.
Make sure the company is fully licensed to operate in the United States. It is advisable to use a well-documented company to avoid falling into the hands of fraudsters
The company should have experience delivering to Utah. The delivery process is always better when the driver is familiar with the routes in the area.
Find out about the kind of damages the insurance policy of the company offers. Accidents could happen along the way due to uncontrollable circumstances or errors, and the insurance policy of the company should cover some damages, especially those caused by worker errors.
Hire a company that prioritizes safety. The entire shipping process should be carried out with laid down safety measures to protect lives and property.

TRAX, a light rail system in the Salt Lake Valley, consists of three lines. The Blue Line (formerly Salt Lake/Sandy Line) begins in the suburb of Draper and ends in Downtown Salt Lake City. The Red Line (Mid-Jordan/University Line) begins in the Daybreak Community of South Jordan, a southwestern valley suburb, and ends at the University of Utah. The Green Line begins in West Valley City, passes through downtown Salt Lake City, and ends at Salt Lake City International Airport.
The Utah Transit Authority (UTA), which operates TRAX, also operates a bus system that stretches across the Wasatch Front, west into Grantsville, and east into Park City. In addition, UTA provides winter service to the ski resorts east of Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Provo. Several bus companies also provide access to ski resorts in winter, and local bus companies also serve the cities of Cedar City, Logan, Park City, and St. George. A commuter rail line known as FrontRunner, also operated by UTA, runs between Ogden and Provo via Salt Lake City. Amtrak’s California Zephyr, with one train in each direction daily, runs east-west through Utah with stops in Green River, Helper, Provo, and Salt Lake City.
I-15 and I-80 are the main interstate highways in the state, where they intersect and briefly merge near downtown Salt Lake City. I-15 traverses the state north-to-south, entering from Arizona near St. George, paralleling the Wasatch Front, and crossing into Idaho near Portage. I-80 spans northern Utah east-to-west, entering from Nevada at Wendover, crossing the Wasatch Mountains east of Salt Lake City, and entering Wyoming near Evanston. I-84 West enters from Idaho near Snowville (from Boise) and merges with I-15 from Tremonton to Ogden, then heads southeast through the Wasatch Mountains before terminating at I-80 near Echo Junction.
I-70 splits from I-15 at Cove Fort in central Utah and heads east through mountains and rugged desert terrain, providing quick access to the many national parks and national monuments of southern Utah, and has been noted for its beauty. The 103 mi (166 km) stretch from Salina to Green River is the country’s longest stretch of interstate without services and, when completed in 1970, was the longest stretch of entirely new highway constructed in the U.S. since the Alaska Highway was completed in 1943.
The Utah Inland Port is a proposed dry port in the northwest quadrant of Salt Lake City, Utah, and another undeveloped land in Salt Lake County. It is currently in the planning and pre-construction stages. It would cover over 16,000 acres.
The Utah Inland Port Authority is a government-run corporation with the responsibility and legal powers to develop and run the Utah Inland Port. As of August 2019, its current CEO is Jack Hedge. The Port Authority is governed by a Port Authority Board. Per Utah Code, seven board members are appointed, and four hold their post ex officio The current board chair is Salt Lake City Councilman James Rogers; its previous chair was Derek Miller, chair of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce.
In 2016, the University of Utah submitted an assessment regarding a potential inland port in the Salt Lake City area. Funded by the World Trade Center Utah and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the report found the potential for strong economic benefits, including high-paying job opportunities, and rural economic development. It also found a need to perform additional studies on environmental impacts and the effect on tax revenues.
Also in 2016, Governor Gary Herbert created an Inland Port Exploratory Committee to “drive the development” of an inland port in Utah. At the time, he stated that “despite anti-trade, isolationist rhetoric at the national level, Utah remains committed to promoting international trade.
In 2019, HB0433 significantly broadened the Inland Port Authority’s reach. The proposed boundaries amount to approximately one-third of Salt Lake City’s land area. On March 11, 2019, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Salt Lake City’s Attorney’s Office brought a lawsuit against the port, challenging the legality of the legislation underlying the port’s creation. On January 9, 2020, the presiding judge rejected the city’s claims and dismissed the case. The city’s new mayor, Erin Mendenhall, called the decision a “disappointment” but stated she planned to appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court.
Salt Lake City International Airport is the only international airport in the state and serves as one of the hubs for Delta Air Lines. The airport has consistently ranked first in on-time departures and had the fewest cancellations among U.S. airports. The airport has non-stop service to more than a hundred destinations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as to Amsterdam, London, and Paris. Canyonlands Field (near Moab), Cedar City Regional Airport, Ogden-Hinckley Airport, Provo Municipal Airport, St. George Regional Airport, and Vernal Regional Airport all provide limited commercial air service. A new regional airport at St. George opened on January 12, 2011. SkyWest Airlines is also headquartered in St. George and maintains a hub in Salt Lake City.

I was working with Move Wheels a month prior to moving from Saint Augustine, FL all the way to Park City, UT & I needed to have 2 cars shipped in an enclosed carrier. I was assured I’d have the driver information & pick up time closer to the ship date; we needed our cars picked up 5/29 (Memorial Day). Come the Friday before the cars were to be picked up, I had been in communication with a rep via text, asking her to provide me with the driver info & pick up time as they were to come that Monday; this was at noon & was told I would be provided the info shortly. Well, 3pm rolls around & I call my rep, who was now not responding to my texts or calls. I ended up calling the main line & told them AGAIN, what I needed. Well, I was never given any information, so I thought, well, we’ll just wait & see if someone shows up…of course no one did. Needless to say, my call to them at 9:01am on Tuesday morning was not a pleasant one.
I then began searching for the top transportation company and came across Ship A Car Inc. I picked up the phone & was connected to Chad. He was extremely helpful, informative & honest. He rolled up his sleeves & got right to work on helping me get a carrier that day or the following. Even with the prior company being a complete PITA & not removing me from the board, Chad made magic happen. By the time he left for the day, we didn’t have a carrier yet, which was ok. I honestly didn’t expect to have a carrier until the next day. That was until I got a call from a dispatcher who emailed me the paper work & in minutes, I had a carrier that was to be there the following morning. BUT, I got a call from the carrier again shortly after & he wanted to pick my car up that night, as they were in Orlando.
All my worries had diminished & I have Chad to thank for all his hard work & dedication. He was a pleasure to work with & I will certainly refer anyone to him in need of car transportation assistance, in the future.

My agent was Doug and he was professional, courteous, and as truthful as he could be. He kept me informed every step of the way and was very cooperative. As our circumstances change, I made him aware and he changed things up as we were going. I was shipping my deceased husband's car to our daughter. Things had to line up before I could ship that car and I explained that to Doug at the outset. He worked with me.
I live in a rural area with narrow streets. He said, “I'm gonna put the car up for some driver with the explanation of the circumstances. We will make that driver aware. And we'll go from there.” Somebody accepted the car within 24 hours and I was totally shocked. Doug explained everything to the driver and the driver said he could handle it. When I made contact with the driver and I re-explained to him, he said, “I committed to picking this car up so that you would not have to walk, you would not have to meet me anywhere. You wouldn't have to leave your home. This car is literally going door to door.”
The morning that he was coming to pick up the car, the driver called me and notified me that he was in the area. I knew exactly where he was. I again said to him, “Maybe you should just stop on the larger street or the wider street, and give me a call. And then reassess whether or not you can get down into my narrow road to pick up the car.” I heard that driver before I saw him. He got down out of his big truck and said he couldn't turn around. But I was told not to worry as this was the commitment he made. We looked over the car and he took pictures of my vehicle. He loaded the 2006 Sonata on the back of his truck and it was ready to go.
He gave me an approximate delivery date to my daughter. But his plan changed. The driver did not call to tell me but that was perfectly all right. My daughter was looking forward to the weekend and when she reached him, he told her he would have the car there on Monday morning, which he did. I just wished that I had known it wasn't going to get there then I wouldn't have been so anxious that Saturday. But he didn't know. Other than that, the driver delivered and the car was in excellent condition when my daughter got it. The gentleman backed his big, old, long truck out of this narrow street. I was impressed because nobody else did. I am grateful to Ship A Car.

Excellent communication from Ship-A-Car Direct (Stefan and others). They lined up ARK Transport, who made an uneventful trip from Colorado to Ohio. Car was delivered at 10:30 PM (No problem for me, but I was unable to take good receiving inspection photos. Driver was very careful unloading car. No damage during transit.

I called up Ship A Car and they were very courteous on the phone. They were understanding that at my age, I'm not quick on the computer and on a whole bunch of things. But I knew what I wanted. They said they would find somebody. They said, "Give us a day." They came back and gave me a basic price. Then they came back and said, "We found somebody who will do it for $50 less. It's enclosed. Everything is perfect. We've had a lot of good feedback with them." So I gave them my credit card and they took their money. I also paid for the extra insurance because it was a specialty car.
Ship A Car reduced the amount that they would get in their pocket by $50 when carrier number one could not pick up the car timely and they had to go to carrier number two, which was the fellow I ended up with. It was perfect. The guys were personable and it was a nice experience. The only thing was that I didn't know when the driver was going to show up. They said, "We'll pick it up Friday or Tuesday or Wednesday or whatever." They couldn't give me a time. So the gentleman called me and said that they were stuck at the car dealership so instead of getting here at 10 in the morning, they were going to arrive at 2:00 or 3:00. He kept me posted along the way telling me when he was going to arrive. So it was a pleasant experience.
When the driver pulled up, he had a Porsche in there, which he pulled out and then put my car in the middle because of the way it was going to be dropped off at the other location. They strapped it all down. He took pictures before it left. Then it was in Nebraska from Long Island in a couple of days. They said it could take anywhere from four to six days, but it only took two and a half days. I was very pleased. My son looked at the car when it arrived and it arrived just the way it left.
