Vehicle Shipping to Massachusetts

Massachusetts is a state rich in history, sports culture, and educational excellence. The state houses several high-ranking universities and many sports teams. Whether you are looking to put down roots or visit temporarily you are sure to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the state. The stress involved in moving your stuff to a different state can dampen the excitement of the adventure that awaits you in the beautiful state of Massachusetts.

What Affects the Cost of Shipping a Car to Massachusetts?

The cost of shipping vehicles varies depending on several factors and different companies give you very different shipping quotes. Here are some of the major factors that influence the cost of shipping:

Distance and Location

The distance between the origin of your vehicle and the location to which it is to be delivered greatly influences the cost of shipping. It would cost less to ship across shorter distances. Though there is a discount on the cost per mile when you are shipping across long distances, the overall cost of shipping is still higher since the distance is significantly longer.

The location also affects shipping quotes, if you are shipping your vehicle to major cities you are likely to pay less than when you are shipping to rural areas. This is because major routes get more business and the carrier can transport several vehicles at once depending on the size, thus saving the cost of transportation. It costs more to ship to rural areas because they do not get a lot of carriers passing through and can be several miles off major roads.

Flexibility of Delivery

Auto shipping companies often give you a time frame within which your car would be picked up and delivered. Having a flexible transport schedule will help you get better shipping quotes because it gives the company room to efficiently plan their routes. However, if you need an expedited pickup and  delivery you will have to pay more.

Open Vs. Closed Auto Carrier

The type of auto carrier you choose to ship your vehicle is another major factor that affects the cost of shipping your vehicle.

Open auto carriers are readily available and are a standard for shipping companies; therefore, this mode of shipping is less expensive. Depending on the size, several vehicles can be transported at the same time. The downside to this option is that your vehicle would be exposed to the elements and road debris during transit.

With the enclosed carrier option, your car would be covered and protected from road hazards and bad weather conditions. This is the ideal option for high-end cars such as classics and sports cars. Some enclosed carriers are designed to transport low-ground cars to allow for easy loading unto the truck and the truck drivers usually have a good knowledge of handling expensive cars. The type of truck and expertise required makes the enclosed auto carrier relatively more expensive.

Type and Condition of Vehicle

The kind of vehicle you want to transport will affect your shipping quotes. Transporting larger vehicles are relatively more expensive than smaller ones. Larger vehicles weigh more and take up more space on the carrier.

The condition of the vehicle you want to ship to Massachusetts affects how it would be handled. An inoperable vehicle would need special equipment to place it on the truck, which makes it more expensive to ship inoperable vehicles.

Type of Shipping

When it comes to the location of pick-up and delivery there are two major options; terminal-to-terminal and door-to-door shipping.

In terminal-to-terminal shipping, you will drop off your vehicle at the terminal in the city from which you are shipping your vehicle and pick it up at the shipping terminal in Massachusetts. This option is more economical.

In door-to-door shipping, the auto shipping company will pick up your vehicle from your address and deliver it to your doorstep in Massachusetts. The option is more expensive because the truck driver might have to leave major routes depending on your location and extra miles attract more cost.

How to Select a Competent Auto Shipping Company

There are a lot of auto shipping companies that claim to ship your car to Massachusetts effectively and hassle-free, but end up failing at delivery. You need to be well informed when you hire a shipping company to transport your car.

Choose a Company that Offers the Services you Need

Auto transport companies offer different services based on the resources at their disposal. The different services they offer include door-to-door shipping, terminal-to-terminal shipping, and enclosed shipping – just to name a few. Make sure you verify the services of the company you want to hire.

Hire an Experienced Company

Go for a company that has a successful record of accomplishment of picking up and delivering vehicles to Massachusetts. It helps the delivery process when the company is familiar with the routes in the state and the different scenarios they might encounter. The company should also be legally allowed to operate in the state.

Check the Insurance Policy of the Carrier You are Placed With

During transit, some unexpected events might be encountered that could lead to damage to your vehicle. You should make inquiries about what kind of damage the insurance policy of the company covers. You can also purchase additional insurance to put your mind at ease.

Extensive Research

Once you make a list of the companies you are considering, you should research thoroughly to find out how the companies operate. Online reviews are a great way of knowing the satisfaction levels of previous customers. You can also get recommendations from family and friends. Check if the company is legitimate, they should have all the necessary paperwork and licenses required to operate in all states in the United States.

This company and is a broker, they do not want to go above and beyond. There was a delay in our expedited shipment and they really didn't try to help. While talking to myself and my wife they hung up on my wife. When we called back to speak to a manager, the manager really didn't seem to care and still didn't try to help with the delay. The actual company they hired to transport our vehicle is the one that absolutely went above and beyond. The customer service at ship a car was really unprofessional.

I very early write reviews but this company deserving of my time to sit down and write one. I contacted Bob Moran after being left high and dry by another company. We were leaving in 3 days to relocate my son. He was going to be heading to New York shortly after relocating him so we were in a time crunch to have the car arrive before he was to leave. Bob worked tirelessly to find us a driver. It came down to an hour before my husband was going to make the 16 hour drive while we left for the airport and we received a call. IT WAS BOB and he had a driver. I have never had someone work so hard to make it work. He owed us nothing as I came to him late in the game but he didn't let me down. I feel like company works differently then most out there. This is a hard industry to trust. I give them 5 STARS!

Jonathan Maldonado from Ship a Car was very professional, answered our all question. Jonathan walked me through the process and what to expect. My car was picked (on time) and delivered (2 days early) . If I do need to ship a car, I will definitely use them again. We chose Ship a Car because the rate that was quoted was reasonable for an enclosed shipment.
