Main Street of the Transcontinental
Nebraska’s geography is its shipping advantage. I-80 follows the Platte River across the whole state, the same corridor the wagon trains and the first transcontinental railroad chose, and it remains the country’s workhorse east-west trucking lane. North Platte underlines the point: Union Pacific’s Bailey Yard there is the largest rail classification yard in the world. Freight has always flowed through Nebraska in volume, and car haulers ride that same current every day of the year.
