Colorado is part of the western and southwestern United States and is one of the Mountain States. Denver is both the capital and most populous city of Colorado. Hawaii (Hawaiian: Hawai‘i), affluence of natural beauty and serenity, is a group of volcanic islands in the central Pacific Ocean. The islands were annexed by the United States in 1900, and as a U.S. territory saw population expansion and the establishment of a plantation system for growing sugarcane and pineapples. On the fateful morning of December 7, 1941, during World War 2, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu. The state is widely known as the ‘Aloha State’ with the Pua Aloalo (Yellow Hibiscus) considered the state flower. ‘Ua Mau Ke Ea o ka ʻĀina I ka Pono (“The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness”)’- is the state motto.
